To provide food assistance for our northern Riley County neighbors who are experiencing food insecurity.Profile
The Community Food Basket has been serving northern Riley County neighbors since 1995. The pantry is open each Saturday from 10:00 am until noon and is located behind the Riley City Library at 115 S. Broadway. Entrance to the Food Basket is from the alley behind the library.
There are no income guidelines. Food is given out based on family size. We provide enough food to each family to have three meals a day for three days. Each week, there are a variety of products to choose from including meat, milk, canned goods and some household products. On specific holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter), we provide baskets that include additional meal making items.
Our service area starts at the Manhattan boundary west to the Clay County line and north to the Marshall County line. Included in this area are the towns of Keats, Riley, Leonardville, Randolph and surrounding rural areas. The 10 area host churches provide volunteers to work each week at the pantry. There are no paid positions. Food and monetary donations are provided by the area churches, private donors and local organizations. We also partner with Flint Hills Breadbasket in Manhattan to request some needed food items on a limited basis. All donations go directly to serving our neighbors.
